What is Duke Webmail?
Duke Webmail is the Duke-branded version of Microsoft Outlook that you use to access your Duke student email account. Instead of having a separate Duke email app or program to check your messages, Duke integrated the familiar Outlook interface into the university login system.
So Duke Webmail = the Outlook web application adapted for Duke students, faculty, and staff to access Duke email. Pretty neat and convenient!
Your Duke email address will be in the format [email protected]. For example, if your name is Mary Smith your email would be [email protected]. This is the official email address Duke will use to communicate with you.
How to Access Duke Webmail
Accessing your Duke email through the Webmail platform is simple:
- Go to the Duke Webmail login page: www.outlook.com/duke.edu
- Enter your Duke NetID (your student ID, without spaces or dashes)
- Enter your NetID password
- Click Sign in and you’ll reach your Webmail inbox!
From your inbox you can read Duke announcements, email professors and classmates, schedule through your calendar, and more.
Trouble Logging In?
If the outlook.com/duke.edu url isn’t working, try the direct Duke SSO (single sign on) link instead:
https://sso.duke.edu/idp/Authn/UserPasswordThis one-stop login redirects you through the Duke authentication system to access Webmail. Just enter your NetID and password as usual.
Resetting Your Duke Email Password
Forgot your Duke email password? Here are the steps to reset your Webmail password:
- Go to the Webmail login page
- Click “Can’t access account?” under the password field
- Enter your NetID, Duke Unique ID number, and date of birth
- Click Continue and follow the prompts to reset your password

Accessing Webmail on Mobile
The Outlook app for iOS and Android syncs seamlessly with Duke Webmail. Simply download the Outlook mobile app and sign in with your full @duke.edu email address and password. Then stay connected to your Duke email while on the go!
